The beloved kids' series Sesame Street has been running since 1969 and is not stopping anytime soon. With the announcement that HBO and Max would not be renewing their contract for the series, it has now been revealed that Netflix will be the home of Sesame Street going forward.
All previous episodes will be available on Netflix, along with all new episodes. New episodes will also air on PBS and PBS Kids. Those new episodes, starting with season 56, will have some structural changes. Though segments such as Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will remain, each episode will contain an 11-minute story that mirrors the character-driven narratives seen in the likes of Bluey.
On the social media posting announcing the deal, it was said, “The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serves as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.” That deal between Netflix and Sesame Workshop also allows the streamer to develop video games for the platform.
Although the old episodes of Sesame Street are now available to watch on Netflix, they will remain available on HBO and Max through 2027 as part of the extension to their deal.
