Netflix's 'Nimona' Premieres June 30, So Here's A New Trailer

The trailer opens by showcasing the medieval-esq landscape with the futuristic twist of flying vehicles. The queen has been murdered, and the town believes that their once highly regarded knight, Ballister Boldheart, is to blame. We see a busy night scene with Nimona watching television through a window as newscasters say that “He’s a murderer! He’s a monster.” To Nimona, he is “perfect.” The teenage wannabe sidekick finds him when he is at his lowest point, appearing defeated; she startles him. She informs him that help has arrived. The trailer shows the two having the classic epic adventure as they navigate the futuristic, medieval society in search of the real villain.

The next shot shows a downtown area lit up at night with flying cars; Nimona offers help, a little eager beaver to go on a killing spree. They end up in a confrontation with those who are hunting Ballister. Nimona grabs his face and says, “I can help you, but promise you won’t freak out.” After some well-written banter, she shifts into a large and in charge rhino and helps to clear a path by busting through a wall and attacking the knights. “This is the part where you run,” she tells them. And they do!

Nimona quickly shifts into a mouse, then a bear, and catches Ballister. Citizens are warned on a speaker system that there is a monster attack in progress. The shot shows people stopping to listen to the warning. Nimona shifts into a bird, a rodent, a gorilla who falls through the ceiling, and then a whale doing the same. A building appears to catch fire. The shot cuts to a grassy field behind a large wall with Ballister lying face down. Nimona says, “Something, something, something, we win.”

The next scene introduces Ambrosius Goldenloin, who appears to be an important person to Ballister. Ambrosius, however, seems to think that Ballister is guilty of the crime. It’s entirely possible, though, that Ambrosius isn’t worthy of Ballister’s loyalty. Nimona and Ballister are then on a train with Ambrosius and his army waiting for them at a station. Nimona shifts into several creatures throughout the battle, which culminates in a fight between Ambrosius and Ballister. As they talk, Ambrosius refers to Nimona as a monster. Ballister tells him not to call her that. A flashback arrives at this point, showing Nimona as a young child. She is being bullied and shapeshifts in the scene into a scared kitten. She says to Ballister, “The world kicks you around sometimes, but together we can kick it back.” The antiheroic duo proceeds to scale down the building, where there are more officers and knights in flying cars. They are surrounded. Nimona says, “I like where this is going.” Ballister says, “Let’s break stuff.” She says, “Metal.”

The trailer fades out as they shake hands, agreeing to be a team forever or, as Nimona says, “no take backsies.” Nimona is brought to you by writers Robert L. Baird (Big Hero Six, Monsters, Inc, and Monsters University), Lloyd Tayler (Spies in Disguise), and Pamela Ribbon (Moana and Ralph Breaks the Internet). It’s directed by Nick Bruno (Rio) and Troy Quane (Enchanted). Check it out, only on Netflix – June 30, 2023.
