HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry Season 1 was a big success for Warner Bros. and HBO Max, and work is underway on Season 2. Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the duo behind IT and IT: Chapter 2, returned for the series. Bill Skarsgård came back to play both Pennywise the Dancing Clown and Bob Gray, earning praise for his brilliant portrayal of the monstrous character. Season 1 took place 27 years before the events of IT, and Season 2 will take fans back nearly three decades to the 1930’s, and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane revealed the bloody exciting details. Welcome to Derry Season 2 will be set during Depression era America, with a focus on the Bradley Gang Massacre. Caleb Kane revealed, “We’re making something very exciting for season 2 that I can’t talk too much about, but it’s got a different palette.” Kane is currently promoting Peacock’s Crystal Lake, and while he was careful not to give too much away, he added: “It’s the Depression, it’s 1935. Beyond that, I can’t talk about it, but you can imagine a Warner Bros. gangster picture through the lens of Pennywise and Stephen King. That’s kind of what we’re doing.”
Kane also said the show’s writing team is deep into the writing process and has multiple scripts and nearly half the season’s story set. He said, “We’re edging towards pre-production.” Kane remained tight-lipped regarding further details, but said, “It’s very exciting. It’s very, very bloody, and it’s very different from season 1.” The Bradley Gang led a crime spree in Derry, Maine, during the 1930s, and as Season 1 showed, crime and chaos were things Pennywise was great at taking advantage of. As of now, the cast for Season 2 hasn’t been announced, but fans all hope to see Bill Skarsgård again as Pennywise. The Swedish actor has portrayed the evil entity since IT (2017). Brad Caleb Kane also revealed that he’s working closely with Andy and Barbara Muschietti on Season 2. He called them “very generous collaborators” who “know what they want, too. So it really is a meeting of the minds on that one.”
