Just over four months sit between now and the release of the second part of the Denis Villeneuve take on Dune. Technically the third attempt at adapting the foundational and classical science-fiction novel. Despite the first part being released at the height of the pandemic, all indicators are that things are going well this time.

To build the hype for the second part, Warner Bros. has released the latest trailer for the film. Dune: Part Two promises to be more action-packed than the first, which had the difficult task of building the universe and still telling a coherent story and laying out the stakes. It’s been a struggle for each attempt to adapt the novel, each with its strengths and flaws. This is due to the nature of adapting novels to movies, especially a novel with large time gaps and wide-ranging, complex world-building.

The trailer gives us a better glimpse of the story this time around, but also who we’ll see in the second part. It introduces Christopher Walken as the Emperor and Florence Pugh as his daughter. Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck is shown to have survived and is reunited with Paul, and urges him to use his growing status among the Fremen to his advantage and avenge his family. There’s also a slightly longer look at Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, displaying his prowess as a fighter in the fighting pits on the Harkonnen homeworld.

It also gives us a better idea of what will happen. Paul will have to prove himself to the Fremen and his love interest, Chani. His mother will have to do the same. All of this will have to be done while they fight an insurgency against the Harkonnen, led by the gluttonous yet plotting Baron Vladimir. To milk the desert planet for as much Spice as he can, he unleashes his psychotic nephew Rabban to terrorize and dominate the local population into submission. This is, of course, all part of his plan to bring in his other, smarter, and by all outward appearances more understanding, nephew, Feyd-Rautha.

It will all come to an explosive conclusion this November 5 in theaters nationwide.
