While the recent Disney+ Star Wars series have been focused on the times immediately after the original trilogy, a pair of films that will bookend the entire saga are on the horizon. According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, the two films are connected thematically. Rey’s story is set fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker, the newest Jedi will attempt to rebuild the Order. Meanwhile, James Mangold’s Star Wars film will focus on the origins of the Force.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Kennedy expressed excitement about the possibilities, “I think what’s great about Star Wars is it’s a big galaxy, and we’re coming off a major war with the First Order. And now, Rey has made a promise to Luke, and that’s really the core of where we’re going and what this story will be. And I think it offers just tremendous opportunity to introduce new characters and start with something fresh, because we culminated what George [Lucas] was creating, and now we take all of that and move it to the next chapter.”

Kennedy also explained the importance of the Mangold film about the Force, “That comes up a lot, from the moment I stepped in and George brought me into the company, there’s been a lot of interest in that.” While Star Wars fans wait to uncover the mysteries of the Force, they can follow the adventures of former Jedi Ahsoka when her series debuts on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
