Every town has an Elm Street.

In the 2000s and early 2010s, we were overwhelmed by remakes and reboots of popular slasher franchises. Halloween, Friday the 13th, My Bloody Valentine, and, of course, A Nightmare on Elm Street, among many others.

After the critical disaster but commercial success that was the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street starring Jackie Earle Hailey in the role of Freddy Krueger, we haven’t gotten anything else from the Springwood Slasher. All of that is changing.

Paramount has made a deal with the Wes Craven estate, and now it’s time to head back to Elm Street. So far no details have been released, other than that the upcoming film will be based off of the first movie. Whether that means that we’re getting a straight remake or a legacy sequel in the vein of the latest Halloween trilogy is anybody’s guess. One thing is for sure, though: if it’s successful, there’s no way that Hollywood isn’t going to dust off some old killers for another round on the silver screen.
