Fans will buy anything, and if it’s the right thing for the right person, they will spend any amount of money to own it.
The fight scene between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker is one of the most iconic scenes in all of cinematic history, in no small part because of the twist that instantly became a defining moment in cinematic culture. While the lightsaber that Luke wielded in the fight was always destined to be valuable, the ultimate price tag is one that broke records and shattered expectations. It recently went up for auction at Heritage Auctions, where it sold for a whopping $3.75 million dollars, a world record for a Star Wars prop.

The fact that it sold for so much is no surprise, even though it was only expected to sell for a still not insignificant sum of $2 million. Given that it’s one of the main props in arguably the most important and iconic scene in all of Star Wars, the bidding would be fierce. If Vader’s saber goes up for auction, we’ll probably see a bigger number.
