Actor Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal, Scream 7) has officially signed on to play the iconic role of DC’s telepathic villain Gorilla Grodd. The role is in DC Studios’ upcoming Superman spinoff series centered on Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen. The filmmakers describe the project as a comedic true-crime mockumentary/docuseries. Skyler Gisondo will reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen from James Gunn’s 2025 Superman.

The project will focus on Jimmy Olsen as he investigates metahuman crimes, with Tatro’s hyper-intelligent Gorilla Grodd as the primary antagonist in the first season, seeking to rule the human and simian worlds, though the filmmakers have not yet shared specific plot details. John Broome and Catherine Infantino created Gorilla Grodd in 1959. After encountering an alien spaceship, Grodd developed a range of abilities, including psychic powers.

The title of the Jimmy Olson spinoff project remains unknown. HBO Max is working with the production; however, despite the buzz around this project, the streaming service has not yet officially greenlit the series. This project highlights DC Studios' continuing plan to build its new movie universe using separate TV shows that focus on individual characters. Dan Perrault and Tony Yacendas are reuniting with Tatro, who starred in their hit mockumentary series, American Vandal. Deadline reports that James Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as executive producers on the show.
