Even with the disappointing news of Supergirl’s mediocre opening at the box office, there is still news of new content from the Superman Universe. With last year’s successful release of Superman, there was immediate talk of developing a series based on the Daily Planet’s investigative reporter, Jimmy Olsen. In this series, created by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, Jimmy Olsen will investigate DCU villains in a true-crime documentary style format. This follows the format of the duo’s Netflix series American Vandal. James Gunn and Peter Safran will be executive producers for this project. Production should start in August; that is when production for Man of Tomorrow should be finished. According to various sources, HBO delayed greenlighting the Jimmy Olsen series until after Man of Tomorrow was done due to budget constraints.
Reprising his role from Superman to play Jimmy Olsen is Skyler Gisondo, who has also appeared in Licorice Pizza and The Righteous Gemstones. He will be joined by other cast members from Superman’s Daily Planet, and they are all expected to join up again in Man of Tomorrow. Other casting news includes various comic actors auditioning for the voice acting role of Gorilla Grodd. There is a call for a lawyer character as well, leading to speculation if Gorilla Grodd will be on trial. We will find out if HBO indeed picks up this series.
