DC Universe’s next feature film, Supergirl, will hit theatres on June 26, but the creatives around James Gunn are, of course, already hard at work on the franchise’s next installments.
Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to last year’s very successful Superman, has now cast Adria Arjona, after a casting in April that also involved Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten.
The role of the actress who made big waves as Bix Caleen in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Andor is yet to be disclosed, but there are rumors that she will play Maxima. The character was created by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez in 1989 as an alien queen with massive psionic powers, including telepathy and teleportation, in addition to enormous physical strength.
Her role evolved from being Superman’s antagonist to a kind of love interest for the Man of Steel, or rather, obsessee, who tried to persuade Superman to create a new breed of Kryptonians with her, although this obsession was somewhat softened in later issues.
Arjonia will join David Corenswet, who reprises his role as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, the new antagonist. Other actors returning for the Superman sequel include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Aaron Pierre as Green Lantern John Stewart.
Aside from the DC blockbuster, the 33-year-old actress from Puerto Rico has recently starred in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by Michael B. Jordan, and Onslaught, a thriller by Adam Wingard. Both films are currently in post-production.
Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027, with another DC Film, The Batman II, following later that year in October.
