'Obsession' Producer Has Filed A Lawsuit Regarding Unpaid Compensation Promises

Leonora Ann Darby, credited as an executive producer of 2025 horror film Obsession, has launched a lawsuit against James Harris and Mark Lane, co-founders of Tea Shop Productions. The suit argues that Darby acted as a lead producer by the definition provided by Tea Shop, but was boxed out of promised net profit sharing; for the record, the film grossed $500 million on a budget of about $750,000. Her lawyer, Thomas K. Richards of Singh, Singh and Trauben, has stated that, “Ms. Darby has brought serious and substantial claims, supported by a detailed factual record. She is confident in her case and intends to pursue it fully.”
Darby joined Tea Shop around 2019. Originally a development and production executive, she swiftly rose through the ranks to become a producer alongside Harris and Lane. Together, they produced films such as A Banquet, The Surfer and Tornado. Darby was able to negotiate a deal in which she got a third of the net profits for films she lead-produced. This deal is the backbone of the lawsuit, though other details were also provided by Darby’s legal team. What this means for the future of Tea Shop Productions remains to be seen, though Obsession has already proven itself to be a hit at the box office.
