Star Wars Zero Company launched on August 27 to overwhelming positive reviews, but there’s a darker side to the story. Zachariah Scott, a former developer for Bit Reactor, the company behind the game, posted on LinkedIn, “It is sick and weird to have all of these EA and Disney folks as well as Bit Reactor Senior staff making all of these 10/10 posts about Star Wars Zero Company being such a huge success and praising the work of the team while seemingly concealing the fact that the team was furloughed weeks ago.” Around 80% of the team was affected, leaving behind only a skeleton crew to manage issues and bugs post-release.
Bit Reactor confirmed that the decision came from them and not EA or Disney, who holds the Star Wars license. The hope is that if the launch goes well, Bit Reactor may be able to bring those employees back, but that’s little consolation for them at the present moment.

his isn’t the only controversy from Bit Reactor this year. Earlier this summer, their former co-owner chief operating officer Alison Kelly filed a lawsuit against the company claiming that co-founder Greg Foertsch pushed her out.
Foertsch denies the claim and cites a poor job performance, which Kelly denies. The lawsuit has been postponed to 2027, leading to an uncertain future for both Bit Reactor and their furloughed employees.
