Eva Marie Saint has passed away at the age of 102 according to family representative Jeff Sanderson. Saint made her film debut in On The Waterfront, earning an Academy Award for her performance. During the ceremony, Saint was visibly pregnant and announced, “I think I may have the baby right here!” Her son, Darrell, came two days later.
Saint wanted to focus on family, so she committed to doing one film a year. One of her most famous roles came from her husband’s support.

Saint recalled, “I vividly remember him saying, ‘Honey, I think you should find a quiet spot. I’ll take care of the children and I want you to really think about this and reread this script.’ He was so right. And that’s what husbands are for.” With her husband’s advice, she auditioned for and landed the starring role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest with Cary Grant.

Saint’s career started out much differently. She was born on July 4, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey before the family moved to the Albany area. Saint attended college at Bowling Green in Ohio with the goal to become a teacher, but she found her calling when she auditioned for the school’s play and won the leading role. Saint pivoted to focus on acting and moved in with her parents in New York. She searched for a year with no luck before she was hired on for a two-line role as a telephone operator. Saint worked with Lee Strasberg as her acting coach and quickly became a top choice of directors. Saint is survived by her children Darrell and Laurette, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
