Paramount Skydance is opening a new video game publishing company that officially brings Paramount into the industry: Paramount Games Studios. This new studio combines Skydance's two existing studios, Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media, with Paramount's IP. The studio's first title will be TMNT Last Ronin, and it will be developed by Platinum Games, who are best known for their work on Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, and Ninja Gaiden 4.
The latest teaser trailer doesn't reveal much, simply giving a cinematic look at a grim, futuristic New York City, using the tagline “When all that remains is vengeance.” However, this re-reveal at Summer Game Fest is a good sign of life for the project. It was announced in 2023 as a AAA third-person action role-playing title similar to 2018's God of War, but that version was ultimately scrapped, with Platinum at the helm of a new take on the game.
The game is based on the beloved 2020 graphic novel of the same name, and the story focuses on a mysterious lone surviving member of the Turtles. He wore a mask and wielded all four of their weapons as he faced off against the Foot Clan, seeking revenge. This is a darker, more serious comic aimed at an older audience, and the game seems to be going in the same direction.
Platinum Games is a natural fit for the franchise, according to Paramount Games Studio head of creative and production Shawn Kittelsen. It has a rich history with action games, even developing a TMNT game in 2016, but it was their ambitious pitch that sealed the deal.

“When we heard their pitch, that only affirmed that further,” Kittelsen said, “because Yohei Shimbori, who is the director on the title for Platinum, came in with a pitch that was built on the pillars of Platinum action and hard-hitting, high-octane combat.”
Kittelsen, however, states the pitch didn't rely on combat alone. Rather, it was “about the emotional through-line, the seasons of life,” likening it to how Turtles fans have grown up from living in “a more innocent and simpler time” to a “much more complicated world where things might be a little bit darker and more challenging.”
TMNT: The Last Ronin will be available on all platforms and PC, but there is no release date at this time.
