WEPA! According to El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico’s premier newspaper, the highly anticipated historical epic Porto Rico has officially begun filming! Famed Puerto Rican rapper Residente is set to make his feature directorial debut with this film. Grammy-winning superstar Bad Bunny will star alongside Academy Award winner Javier Bardem and fellow nominees Viggo Mortensen and Edward Norton. Oscar-winning filmmaking legend Alejandro G. Iñárritu will act as executive producer.

Porto Rico is an epic historical epic centered on the complex colonial history of Puerto Rico. René Pérez Joglar, better known by his stage name Residente, is primarily known as a founding member of the acclaimed Puerto Rican rap group Calle 13. Renowned for his politically charged lyrics and vocal condemnation of corruption within the Puerto Rican government, Residente pledges to bring that same intensity to his work on Porto Rico. Javier Bardem is one of the most acclaimed actors alive who is best known for his role as Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers film No Country for Old Men, which earned him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Bardem is also known for his roles in Biutiful, Skyfall, the Dune trilogy, Being the Ricardos, and F1. Viggo Mortensen is best known for his role as Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as his roles in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book. Edward Norton is best known for his Oscar nominated roles in Primal Fear, American History X, Birdman, and A Complete Unknown as well as his frequent collaborations with director Wes Anderson. Alejandro G. Iñárritu is best known for directing and co-writing Amores perros, Babel, Birdman, and The Revenant; the latter two won him two consecutive Oscars for Best Director.

A superstar who needs no introduction, Bad Bunny is one of, if not the, biggest musician in the world right now. After dropping tracks on Soundcloud, Bad Bunny’s debut album X 100pre (Por siempre) turned him into a household name overnight. In 2020, he dropped two albums; YHLQMDLG (Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana) and El Último Tour Del Mundo. Yo Hago received universal critical acclaim while El Último became the first Spanish-language album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. In 2023, Bad Bunny dropped Un Verano Sin Ti, which jumpstarted what fans have come to call “Bad Bunny Summer.” Enjoying critical acclaim and chart success, it became the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. In 2024, he returned to his reggaeton roots with Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana. Last year, Bad Bunny dropped his biggest album yet, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. While it has garnered the same acclaim and chart success as his previous albums, DTMF is viewed as the spark for a cultural movement in Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny celebrated the release of the album by launching the No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency in Puerto Rico, spanning a total of 31 performances. Starting on November 21st, 2025, Bad Bunny embarked on the Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, which concluded in Puerto Rico on August 23rd, 2026. In addition to being an award-winning musician, Bad Bunny has dabbled in the world of acting with supporting roles in David Leitch’s Bullet Train, Happy Gilmore 2, and Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. He has also made numerous appearances on Saturday Night Live, including the 50th anniversary special, performing as the musical guest for the season 50 finale, and making his debut as a host in season 51. Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show performance earlier this year drew significant critical acclaim and earned 9 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
