Anne Hathaway made her film debut in 2001 with the Garry Marshall film The Princess Diaries. Despite mixed reviews and industry speculation that the film wouldn’t perform well, it was a box office success and turned Hathaway into one of the biggest movie stars of the 21st Century. After a brief and successful stint in family friendly fare, Hathaway became an critical darling thanks to her performances in Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Becoming Jane, and Rachel Getting Married, the latter earning her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. 2012 saw Hathaway reach the peak of her career, starring as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Fantine in Les Misérables, which earned her an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress.

While Hathaway would reunite with Nolan on Interstellar, her career took a hit due to her becoming a victim of what is now referred to as the Misogyny Slop Ecosystem; content made by creatives who create fake narratives around women in the public eye. After years of appearing in underseen studio films and failed awards season hopeful, Hathaway has bounced back on the big screen, appearing in 5 films this year; David Lowery’s Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street, and Verity. In addition to starring in the Days of Thunder sequel, she is set to reprise her role of Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries 3and will co-star in the Ron Howard war film Alone at Dawn alongside Adam Driver.
Days of Thunder is a 1990 film directed by the late Tony Scott, who previously collaborated with Tom Cruise on the original Top Gun. While the film failed to replicate Top Gun’s box office success and cultural impact, it gained cult status amongst NASCAR fans thanks to the racing sequences, Hans Zimmer’s score, and the performances of Tom Cruise and Robert DuVall. Jonathan Levine (The Wackness, 50/50, Warm Bodies) was announced to helm the sequel last month. Will Staples will write the screenplay while Tom Cruise will produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original.
Days of Thunder 2 will drive into theaters on June 2nd, 2028.
