Star Wars fans are eating well as 2026 comes to a close. With the recent release of the excellent Star Wars: Zero Company in late August, the upcoming release of Star Wars: Galactic Racer in October is fast approaching on the horizon.
Press coverage of both games has been ongoing for some time, if not occasionally overlapping, and in an article posted to the game’s website on September 1st, two of Galactic Racer’s directors discussed the importance of “game feel” to the upcoming racing rogue-like. Design Director Mark Bridges spoke to the company’s efforts to trick the mind into thinking it is engaged in a high-speed race using a range of stimuli, but also, how the mechanics of Star Wars vehicles specifically change up the racing formula and how that deception can be accomplished. The Star Wars vehicles in the game are fast, and lack traction due to their hovering nature.
Game Director Bill Lane, meanwhile, spoke to the difficulties of creating a new type of vehicle for the game, the skim speeder, but also the wide variety of references they drew from to accomplish the task. They used all sorts of vehicle references for the skim and other game rides, from planes to a range of four-wheelers, resulting in the team believing there are actually many similarities between a variety of real-world vehicles.
The full article goes into greater detail, and many more small ways, that the team clearly cares a lot about how Galactic Racers feels to play. Hopefully, that attention to detail is tangible to racing fans, and something everyone can appreciate when the game drops October 6th, 2026.
