An Emmy winner is booping her way onto the big screen! Variety has reported that Quinta Brunson is currently developing a feature film about animation icon Betty Boop. She also intends to star as the titular animated icon.
Created by Max Fleischer and Grim Natwick, Betty Boop appeared in 90 theatrical cartoons between 1930 and 1939. Since then, Betty Boop has remained one of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time. One of the shorts, Snow White, was inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" in 1994. Outside of theatrical cartoons, Betty Boop has also appeared in countless comic strips, inspired multiple parodies, and has been the subject of a Tony-nominated musical starring Jasmine Amy Rogers, who earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Betty Boop has also remained a merchandising empire, with reports stating that sales generate over 2 billion dollars per year.
