The live-action realm of DC may be held up for James Gunn’s reboot, but the animated sector is going strong.  Season four of the hit animated series Harley Quinn was given an official release date!  Taglined “Not Your Average Joyride,” the next season drops later this month on July 27, exclusively on Max. Check out the official tweet below!

The series first premiered in 2019, kicking off with Harley trying to separate herself from the Joker and prove herself to the Legion of Doom as an effective villain.  It is a prime example of a DC animated project that is definitely intended for adult audiences. The previous three seasons, as well as the Valentine’s Day special, can be streamed on Max; if you haven’t seen the show before, there’s plenty of time to catch up before the new season drops!

Some spoilers lay ahead for Harley Quinn season three. The previous season left things at a bit of a cliffhanger.  Bruce Wayne was locked behind bars for tax evasion by Mayor Joker, taking Batman out of the field. He passes the leadership baton to Barbara Gordon, who is still Batgirl at this time. The Joker and tax evasion may remind long-time Batman fans of the Detective Comics issue Joker’s Millions, the older origin of the tax evasion meme.

Ivy and Harley were taking very separate paths, putting their relationship at risk in Harley’s mind. While everything seems to point to them remaining together, bumps in the road are sure to arrive, with a Batfam member and the leader of the Legion of Doom being in a relationship.
