Rockstar Games Has Revealed The Price Of 'Grand Theft Auto VI'

If there’s a more hyped up game than Grand Theft Auto VI, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of it. It’s been 13 years since the release of the fifth game, and after the near-universal acclaim of the fifth installment, everyone was excited to see what we’d get next. As the years went by, we began to wonder if we’d get The Winds of Winter before we got GTA VI. We will never get The Winds of Winter. Calling it now.
In any case, we have a solid release date for GTA VI: November 19th 2026, with players who preorder the game able to download it on the 12th of that month. However, if you want it, and a lot of people do, you’re going to have to pony up the big bucks for it. Rockstar has confirmed that the base game will cost $80 USD, rather than the usual $70 for a game of this pedigree. Interestingly, the Ultimate Edition with all of the extra goodies will cost $100, which is a bit more standard.
The price increase makes sense. The game is reported to have cost somewhere between 1-2 billion dollars, making it the most expensive entertainment product in history, though no official budget has been released. If those reports are accurate, it would make sense that the cost of the game would be higher to recoup that budget. If we split the difference and suppose that the game cost 1.5 billion to make, then Rockstar would need to sell almost 19 million copies of the base game to break even. Given that GTA V sold 29 million copies in the first month, that shouldn’t be an issue.
While I’m excited for the game, I’ll probably wait until it’s discounted a bit.
