Star Wars’ return to the big screen next month has a confirmed duration. According to major American theater chains, including AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, as well as the official IMAX website, The Mandalorian and Grogu has a runtime of 2 hours and 12 minutes. This 132-minute runtime makes it longer than the original trilogy, and one minute shorter than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. To this point, Rogue One had the shortest runtime of any Star Wars film in the Disney era. Although fans are already calling this a short runtime, it may work perfectly for a film that brings a live-action series to the big screen. This runtime is equal to roughly 4 episodes of The Mandalorian. A similar runtime of 2 hours and 13 minutes worked extremely well for Rogue One, so perhaps history might repeat itself with Mando.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau and written by Favreau and Lucasfilm’s co-President, Dave Filoni. Favreau already has experience as a successful filmmaker thanks to Iron Man, but he has only directed one episode of The Mandalorian. This was when he experimented with the IMAX ratio for a sequence featuring the krayt dragon. It was well-received, and now Favreau has a chance to replicate that success on a much bigger scale. The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Grogu, and will hit theaters on May 22.
