Ryan Reynolds Opens Up About A Deadpool Christmas Movie That Was Scrapped After Disney Acquired Fox

In a recent interview with Big Issue, Ryan Reynolds revealed that he penned a script for a Christmas-themed Deadpool movie. The film was shelved after Disney acquired Fox, however since the script exists, and it has the star’s backing, it’s not beyond reason that we could eventually go into production. It also looks as if Ryan Reynolds had plans to bring some of his other skills to the Deadpool holiday movie.

I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie. Four years ago [Deadpool co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made [….] Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.

It wouldn’t be the first time Deadpool has encountered Santa. In a Marvel graphic novel written by Skottie Young (Deadpool #7 2018), Deadpool attempts to save Christmas by taking out Saint Nick. Once Upon A Deadpool, the PG13 edit of Deadpool 2 starring Fred Savage, is technically also a holiday movie although it doesn’t have the hard-hitting comedy of the original film.

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are available for streaming on Disney +
