It’s time to float again! The hit HBO horror series It: Welcome to Derry has officially been renewed for a second season 8 months following its first season’s finale.

Set in 1962, Welcome to Derry centers on a group of characters who begin experiencing horrible things following the disappearance of Matty Clements. With Matty gone a group of young kids led by Lilly Bainbridge, a clairvoyant airman Dick Hallorann, and the Hanlon family now all must confront the supernatural entity who goes by Pennywise. Following the immensely successful It duology, Welcome to Derry entered development in 2023. The series premiered on October 26th, 2025 to positive reviews from critics who praised the show’s now-iconic opening title sequence, production values, Andy Muschietti’s direction, and the performances of the cast, particularly those of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, Chris Chalk as Dick Halloran, Arian Cartaya as Richie Santos, and Matilda Lawler as Marge Truman. The series also enjoyed widespread fandom acclaim and great ratings, with its first episode becoming the third most-watched premiere on HBO Max, trailing House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

RELATED:

Welcome to Derry was developed by Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (who directed and produced the It films, respectively) and Jason Fuchs, who contributed uncredited rewrites on It - Chapter Two. Fuchs acted as showrunner alongside Brad Caleb Kane, who also acted as showrunner for another upcoming horror prequel series Crystal Lake. Kane will act as sole showrunner for season 2 as Fuchs is currently working on a live-action film adaptation of My Hero Academia. The Muschietti siblings are also set to return as producers. It’s currently unknown whether or not season 2 will affect Andy Muschietti’s involvement with the long-gestating DCU Batman film The Brave and the Bold, which he was hired to direct in 2023. Season 2 has been confirmed to be set in 1935 and will feature the oft-mentioned Bradley Gang Massacre.

While a Season 2 air date has yet to be confirmed, all 8 episodes of It: Welcome to Derry season 1 are available on HBO Max and physical media.
