Amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, studios have had to reevaluate their release schedule, both theatrical and platform-wise. Sony has had to reevaluate some things and has recently announced the dates. Some productions have been given a date, some have been shifted around, and one was labeled TBD.

The Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led buddy cop comedy Bad Boys 4 has been given a release date of June 14, 2024. This puts it in a holiday weekend release for Father’s Day, a strategic move for box office performance. The film will be competing with Inside Out 2, which also premiers that weekend. Venom 3 is currently dated for July 12, 2024, a date Sony had previously reserved. This is one of the next installments to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and will be live-action like the previous installments.

Now for the films that have had their release dates shifted around. The biographical sports drama Gran Turismo was originally dated for August 11, but this date has been turned into a limited theatrical release. The film will do a full release on August 25.The thought behind this method is to get the audience to promote the film for the studio since the cast cannot, though promotional efforts from certain influencers can be a risky move during the strike.

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, nicknamed Firehouse, was pushed to Easter Weekend with a March 29, 2024 release. Sony’s Spider-Villain origin film Kraven the Hunter was scheduled for October this year. The film has now been pushed to August 30, 2024; this release is over Labor Day weekend, putting the film in a good position for the box office.

The Karate Kid reboot was pushed to December 13, 2024, causing the film to miss the 40th-anniversary window of the original film. They Listen, a Blumhouse horror film directed by Chris Weitz, was originally scheduled for the summer of this year; August 30, 2024 was the newest release date, but the film may be under a TBD status.  Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was slated for an Easter Weekend release and is now labeled TBD.
