Rumbles of its existence have sounded for some time, but it was officially confirmed on August 11th, 2026, that yes, Marvel Comics is handling a Star Wars-superhero crossover.

Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is a crossover set to combine the Marvel superhero characters of Earth-616 and the Star Wars cast of A New Hope as the saga’s starting point replays amidst the realm of superheroes on Earth. The cause? A spell gone awry, that shatters reality and sees the likes of the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and more team up against the Galactic Empire, who has been joined by villains like Doctor Doom, Ultron and Thanos.

The five issue miniseries, set to begin in January of 2027, is being written by Kevin Smith, while the artwork is being done by David Marquez. Various behind-the-scenes figures spoke to the potential and magic possible with this crossover, while Kevin Smith stated the following:

“Back in the early 80’s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics. And as fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga. So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! Many thanks to Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for trusting me to fly the Falcon and the Quinjet!”

This is certainly a bold move much in line with other big franchise crossovers Marvel has helped create in recent years. Last year, it was the beginning of new crossovers with the characters of DC Comics, which continue into 2026 and beyond. We’ll have to wait for more news about Hope Assembles though, with NYCC 2026 a likely place to learn more.
