The grand finale to the years-long Stranger Things saga fast approaches! Airing this evening, New Year’s Eve of 2025, Netflix also dropped a trailer ahead of this final, mega-length episode of the streaming series.

The trailer spends some of its runtime focused on nostalgia, as imagery from past seasons play a speech Hopper seems to be delivering to Eleven though easily could be to the whole cast. Each matches a point of discussion from Hopper, the idea of an unfair life showing a young, terrified Will in Season 1, that Eleven’s childhood was taken from her showing Dr. Brenner, and then how they’ve been under attack all this time, with a flash of the group readying to fight the Demodogs in Season 2 as well as the Mind Flayer from Season 3. The emotion of the trailer are built up by then focusing on points of personal connection between the main cast members, before new footage of the finale begins in earnest.

“Fight for a world beyond Hawkins” is one of the final lines from Hopper, as a series of quick images flash across the screen, showing us most of the main cast. There is Vecna, linked to the Abyss, followed by group members helping Eleven into her bath which has water in it. There are also several shots of characters high-up, from Nancy and Jonathan on top of the radio tower looking worried, to Joyce, Jonathan, Lucas, and Dustin, also looking scared, on a roof. The two shots look connected as we get a clear look at the Abyss starting to fall down onto the Upside Down, the sky shattering as Dustin swears.

Speaking of Dustin, he doesn’t appear to be having the best time in the trailer, as a notable shot features him collapsed on the ground, screaming in apparent emotional agony, which will certainly not ease the worries of fans concerned about Steve’s fate. The trailer’s inclusion of a ticking clock sound, though, also perhaps suggests another long-running fan suspicion about the ending of the series: time travel. What form it may take is an open question, though it may just be a motif speaking to how everyone in the show is running out of time.

The series finale premieres tonight, at 5pm PST/8pm EST, December 31st, 2025.
