A new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday reveals that Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, will return. Unlike his previous two solo outings, where the character was progressively reduced to comedy tropes, this new Thor is quite serious. He is seen praying to Odin for strength for one last battle and to shield his daughter Love from ever having to face the storm. Thor prays, “Lend me the strength of the All Fathers, so that I may fight once more,” the hero says in the trailer. “Defeat one more enemy. And return home to her. Not as a warrior, but as warmth. To teach her not battle, but stillness. The kind I never knew.”

Thor seems to be taking the threat seriously this time, perhaps because he has a daughter to return to, and he’s already lost so much. The trailer ends with a countdown to the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Last week, Marvel revealed that Chris Evans will return as Captain America in the same film. With Robert Downey Jr. set to return as Dr. Doom, it looks like Doomsday will bring much of the original gang back together. Check out the trailer below.
