‘Team Fortress 2’ To Get Friendly-Fire Mode

Team Fortress 2 is one of the most popular online games of all time. With nine different classes and several different game modes to choose from, millions of players have been burning, shooting, stabbing, and slashing opposing players all in the service of bringing the red or blue teams to victory.

But there has been one major thing missing.

Of all the big things you can do during the game, one of the things you can’t do is kill any of your teammates. No matter how many bullets the Heavy might fire at his teammates, he won’t even scratch them. Well, that’s all about to change.

Valve has officially announced that as of November 5th, 2023, the game will be adjusted to allow for friendly-fire kills. Do you feel that the Scout isn’t pulling his weight? Blow him up. Do you hate corner snipers, even when they’re on your team? Burn him. The Engineer put his sentry in a less-than-ideal place and now it is negatively affecting your team? Stab him in the back and sap that sentry to get your point across.

Of course, there will be limits to how often you’re allowed to kill your teammates. According to Valve, there will be a limit of three teammate kills per life, with an instant death plus two per minute respawn time after that third friendly-fire kill. This will hopefully prevent the matches from devolving into a Fortnite-style free-for-all where every person is just trying to kill each other, regardless of the objective. However, there will be dedicated servers with unlimited kill abilities if players wish to participate.

It’s undeniable that this will have a major impact on the game, whether for better or for worse. This will no doubt shake things up after sixteen years. Fire up the game this November and see for yourself how fun it is.

Team Fortress 2 is free-to-play on Steam.
