Production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II has been paused. Reeves is on a break from directing the movie, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Matt Reeves co-wrote the movie’s script with writer Matt Tomlin. Reeves and Tomlin have worked on the film’s script for the past 3 years, and filming began on June 12, 2026, at Leavesden Studios in London.  On Monday, Warner Bros. confirmed the pause and expressed support for Reeves. They said, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” adding, “Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” There’s also been lots of speculation regarding the nature of Reeves’ “family matter”, with some spreading rumors about the director’s health and making other unverified claims.

Fans took out their frustration about the pause on social media, but as of now, the movie is on schedule to release on February 18, 2028. A significant portion of The Batman: Part II was already filmed, and fans shared new videos of Reeves on set with director of photography Erik Messerschmidt as recently as Sunday. Reeves looked to be in great spirits, so this pause may have been scheduled, and there’s no emergency. It’s too early to say whether its release will be pushed back further. For now, everyone should wish Reeves the best in this difficult time.
