As we enter the second week of Loki and with The Marvels about to hit theaters in a couple of weeks, Marvel appears to be once again hogging all the limelight. But what have our friends at DC been up to?  We know the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA strikes have certainly limited any active discussions, but it looks like we will be seeing the official close of the Snyderverse with the final film of the series Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and usher in the new James Gunn-driven movie universe.

While not specifically sourced within the article from Variety, it appears that no one is going to be back from the old regime. In an article, that went over the on-set drama surrounding the upcoming Aquaman sequel, there is a line that talks about how Gunn has made the call to clean house and move on from the past, “none of the stars cast by Zack Snyder for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller and Momoa will reprise their roles in the new DC universe in character.”

The article continues, “Momoa may return, just not as Aquaman. Sources say the actor has engaged in talks to play Lobo, either in the 2025 reboot Superman: Legacy, written and directed by Gunn, or in a standalone film.”  Not surprisingly, the only actor who seems to have survived this superhero purge is John Cena’s Peacemaker but again that was a James Gunn-produced series.

It isn’t surprising that DC and Gunn have taken this attitude. The films have not exactly been barnburners for the studio and have constantly been in the shadow of Marvel and Disney. There is a lot of hope Gunn can bring DC products back to favour for comic book fans and movie lovers and hopefully this is the start of something new.
