The Pokémon Company Has Revealed The Official Pronunciation Of Rayquaza

Ray-Kwah-Zuh. That’s what it is, right? I’ve been capturing that Pokémon on and off since Pokémon Ruby (my favorite one) and that’s how we all pronounced it. That’s the only pronunciation I’ve ever heard. However, we’ve all been getting it wrong, it seems. According to the Pokemon Company itself, it’s actually Ray-Kway-Zuh.
Huh.
I mean, I guess it makes sense. Its name is a combination of Ray, denoting its celestial nature, and quasar, so there’s nothing technically off about it. However, that hasn’t stopped the Pokémon community from largely rejecting this news. Several fans on social media have taken the “the Pokémon Company can call it what they want, it’s Ray-Kwah-Zuh” approach. For my part, I’m taking the same route. I’ve been saying the old name for twenty years, and I can’t be bothered to change it now.
Ray-Kwah-Zah will appear again in Pokémon A-Z, set to release on October 16th of this year.
