The Trailer For 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping' Has Been Released

Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the prequel to The Hunger Games, is just a year away from release, and Lionsgate just released a trailer.
The trailer opens at the Hall of Justice with Glenn Close taking the role of Drusilla Sickle, who welcomes everyone to “the glorious reaping of District 12.”

The trailer then cuts to a wide field with a large number of tributes gathered around a stage. Drusilla announces the Second Quarter Quell. A dramatic countdown follows, after which Drusilla begins the 50th Hunger Games.

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted for the screen by Billy Ray and directed by Francis Lawrence. Joining Close in the cast are Ralph Fiennes as the President Coriolanus Snow and Joseph Zada as a younger Haymitch Abernathy. Other cast members include Kieran Culkin as a young Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket, Billy Porter as Drusilla’s husband Magno Stift, Whitney Peak as Haymitch’s girlfriend Lenore, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as a young Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, and Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow. The movie is set 24 years before Katniss’ participation in the game and will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
