The Writers' Room For 'Only Murders In The Building' Has Moved To New York

While the sleuths from the Arconia head to the U.K, their writers are heading for the Big Apple! It’s officially been confirmed that the writers’ room for the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building will relocate to New York for a potential 7th season, ahead of the 6th season premiere!

Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the series follows Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), three Arconia residents who share a passion for true crime podcasts. After a murder takes place in their apartment building, the trio launches their own podcast to investigate and crack the case. Although the second season focused on our trio’s investigations within the Arconia, subsequent seasons ventured into new settings and expanded the ensemble. The series explored musical theater in season 3, the film industry in season 4, and a casino in season 5. Season 6 is slated to move to the U.K., featuring notable guest stars such as Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker, David Tennant, and Olivia Colman.

Since its debut in 2021, Only Murders in the Building has become Hulu’s flagship series and received critical acclaim for its performances, comedic approach to true crime, direction, and musical score. The first 5 seasons of the show have received Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series while Martin, Short, and Gomez have received Emmy nominations for their troubles. Short in particular has received nominations for all 5 seasons. In addition to the main trio (and Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard) the series features many prominent actors, including Amy Ryan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Tina Fey, Nathan Lane, Jane Lynch, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Kumail Nanjiani, Téa Leoni, Logan Lerman, and Melissa McCarthy. In what feels like a rarity in the streaming era, Only Murders in the Building has aired 10 episodes yearly for the last 5 years. While the show has yet to be renewed for a 7th season, the writers' room relocating to New York suggests confidence that season 6 will be as successful as the first five.
