Tom Hanks And Marielle Heller Are Hot Properties For 'The Comebacker'

Marielle Heller and Tom Hanks on the set of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

There is still no crying in baseball! Deadline reports that Marielle Heller and Tom Hanks are planning to reunite for the upcoming baseball film The Comebacker. This will serve as a reunion between Heller and Hanks after collaborating on the acclaimed 2019 film, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Described as a love letter to baseball, the script (based on the short story by Dave Eggers) is intended to be written by Heller herself. Gary Goetzman (a frequent collaborator of Hanks) and Leah Holzer (a frequent collaborator of Heller) will act as producers. Three studios are currently competing to obtain the in-demand package, including Sony and Focus. Sources have indicated that Sony has the best chance of bidding war. In addition to Hanks, Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo and Grammy-winning superstar Bad Bunny are being eyed for roles.

Marielle Heller is best known for directing the 2015 comic book film The Diary of a Teenage Girl, the 2018 drama Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and the 2019 film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, all of which received critical acclaim. Tom Hanks recently wrapped up filming on Greyhound 2 and will next be seen (or rather heard) reprising his role as Sheriff Woody in Toy Story 5. Colman Domingo is also busy this year, as he’s starring in the highly anticipated biopic Michael as well as Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. Coming off a 31-day residency in Puerto Rico, an ongoing world tour, and an acclaimed Super Bowl Halftime show, Bad Bunny is set to star in the upcoming historical epic, Porto Rico, which is rumored to begin filming later this summer.
