Project “AC League,” a DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows that was speculated to be in development last year by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, is now reported to have been cancelled. Based on earlier reports, the DLC was planned as a multiplayer co-op experience for up to four players, featuring linear missions meant to further develop the story originally tied to the game’s now-canceled season pass. The project now joins a growing list of canceled titles at Ubisoft, including the long-awaited Prince of Persia remake.
Fortunately for fans of the AC series, a small group at Ubisoft Annecy is reportedly continuing work using the building blocks of the canceled DLC, with the option of turning it into a standalone co-op game or integrating its features into another future Assassin’s Creed project through the Anvil engine. Reports suggest Annecy was planning to launch invitation-only alpha tests by May 2026. Even with the project now in the hands of only a handful of developers, Ubisoft Annecy still has around 270 employees without an active project, leaving room for speculation about another potential round of layoffs and putting both workers and fans in an understandably anxious position.
