A new counteroffer has been presented to the Writers Guild of America by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers during their negotiations last Friday. Both guilds will meet again next week to continue those negotiations.

On Friday night, after the negotiations had finished, the negotiating committee for the WGA sent out a statement to its members, saying that the AMPTP had provided “responses to our proposals in all work areas.” That statement thanked members for their “messages of support and solidarity”. It warned them of “rumours from third parties.” It made note that communication from the committee about the negotiations will happen “when we think there is something of significance to report.”

There is optimism regarding the talks, with sources close to the negotiations saying that while those talks are not at a breakthrough point, they are moving along smoothly. “Everybody is trying to step up and make a resolution,” an executive revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s more positive momentum this week than last.”

At present, the WGA has been on strike for longer than its last strike action in 2007. As of the date when the negotiating committee updated its members, that is 109 days. Nine longer than that previous strike. Even once a deal is agreed with the WGA, the AMPTP will still have to provide a deal to SAG-AFTRA that the actor’s union feels is fair.
