The live-action Naruto movie has an update, and it’s a big one. The film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, in partnership with the film company Lionsgate, announced on social media that they will launch a global campaign to cast three principal characters: Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
Explaining the reason for this approach, Cretton stated that:
“Kishimoto-sensei's stories have inspired generations of fans around the world, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time. I'm thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of Naruto to life!”
The creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto, made his own statement in conjunction with this announcement, which featured a firm endorsement of the filmmaking process and positively appraised Cretton as the film’s director.
Naruto, originally a manga and also recognizable from several anime and video game projects over the years, follows the adventures of the eponymous Naruto Uzumaki and his friends in the Ninja World. Naruto seeks to become the leader of his village, but faces many obstacles, while also holding half of the spirit of a dangerous fox demon inside of himself.
Further casting announcements for the film are expected to follow at a later date, but for now, the search is on!
