'Zootopia 2' Sets Animated Movie Opening Global Box Office Record

Disney’s latest animated feature, Zootopia 2, is breaking box office records. It started with a strong $156 million box office domestically and quickly earned $556 million globally. This marks the film as the highest opening ever for an animated feature as well as the fourth biggest movie opening of all time. Zootopia 2 also did surprisingly well in the Chinese market with a record opening $272 million, the biggest launch for an animated feature, and the second biggest launch of any feature. The recently opened Zootopia land in Shanghai Disneyland. Disney Entertainment co-chair Alan Bergmann celebrated the box office win. He said, “The incredible response to Zootopia 2 reflects both its worldwide appeal and the remarkable work of our filmmakers and cast. It’s a proud moment for Disney Animation and all of us at Disney, not to mention a great start to the holiday season.”
Zootopia 2’s box office companion Wicked: For Good also earned an impressive $93 million domestically in the first five days, which grew to $270.4 million over ten days. As recently as Sunday, November 30, Wicked: For Good was estimated to have earned $34 million in the domestic box office and $26.3 million overseas for an impressive total of $60.5 million globally. Both Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good are currently playing in theaters.
