'Star Wars: Visions' Season 3 Spoiler-Free Review

The anthology series, Star Wars Visions, has returned for a third season. Even though the episodes are non-canon, they are always entertaining and absolutely beautiful. I love seeing new stories in Star Wars, and Visions is the best place to showcase them. The previous two seasons were great, and this season is no different. It’s truly been a great and different addition to the Star Wars universe.
The anthology features nine new episodes. "The Duel: Payback", "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope", and "The Lost Ones" are all new episodes featured in the anthology and also continue the story of characters we have seen in the previous two anthologies. Each episode features a different animation style that perfectly complements the story it tells. The way animation is used in some of these episodes is an incredible feat. One of these episodes is "The Bird of Paradise". It uses a more 3D animation, and there are instances where it forms together to help our protagonist along. It’s a beautiful way to tell the story of this episode, and another example of what animation can do.

"The Duel: Payback" is my favorite episode of the season. We see the return of The Ronin Sith, turned Sith Hunter, who encounters a person from his past, whom he must face. The animation is my favorite, and I love the black and white style with minimal color. It was great to see The Ronin again, because he is effortlessly cool. As a huge fan of Return Of The Jedi, we also got to see the return of the Ewoks, who came in clutch once again with their fighting techniques.
One of the things that most of the episodes have in common is droids. Droids have always been an essential part of Star Wars, but they take on a bigger role in this season. One is a caregiver for a young child, another helps a girl who is floating through space, and another is a close companion to the Ronin. They each serve their own important purpose and are always there to back up their owner in any way they can.

While "The Duel: Payback" is my favorite episode, the coolest, and trippiest, episode by far is the final one, titled "Black". It has such a unique animation style and virtually no dialogue. The only sound in the episode comes from the various music that accompanies each scene. We see glimpses of a Stormtrooper, memories of his life, and the destruction of the Death Star. It’s absolutely gorgeous and definitely the most unique episode by far.
One of my favorite parts about the Star Wars Visions saga is how we get to see Star Wars through different eyes. Everyone has a story that Star Wars inspired, and we get to see those come to life in many different ways in this show. Every episode has a great story, with beautiful animation accompanying it. It’s one of my favorite new Star Wars projects, and I’m excited to see what stories it has for us in the future.
