WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2, EPISODE 13

In the thirteenth installment of this season’s The Bad Batch, the remaining members found themselves on the island of Pabu. This episode continued the trend of what some would call filler but what true fans would describe as world-building and a throwback to the classic format of television in the nineties. There are only a few episodes left in Season 2 of The Bad Batch, and there are three plot lines at play as the season winds down. Crosshair discovers his loyalty to the Empire waning. The Empire reignites their search for Omega. The remaining members of the Clone Force 99 try to figure out how they want to live out the rest of their days.

The episode began with Phee, Omega, Hunter, Wrecker, and Tech on a mission to retrieve an artifact. The deal goes south quickly as the sellers try to kill Phee with a kouhun (the same bug that almost took Padme’s life in Attack of the Clones). A firefight breaks out immediately after, and Omega shows how far she has come and helps the Batch get away safely with the artifact and the money they brought for the deal. The group then reveals to Phee that they have (unofficially) cut ties with Cid and do not have much of a plan for the future. Phee then brings them to the sanctuary on Pabu where they could retire and where Omega could have the life of a child and not a soldier.

The group has little time to consider the option as an earthquake disrupts the planet and sends a tsunami hurling toward the island. Hunter races to save Omega and her new friend from the shore while the rest help to get all the citizens of Pabu to safety. The tsunami, unfortunately, decimates the lower part of the island, but everyone is thankfully safe. The group is then faced with the dilemma of staying or just heading off on another adventure. In the end, they decide to stay on the island to help rebuild. Omega will get to briefly enjoy her childhood while Hunter takes time to plan their next move.

This season has delivered several emotionally jarring and explosive episodes that have left fans speechless. This week’s adventure was fun but with the lack of high stakes at play, it was difficult to get emotionally invested as with previous episodes. Since the Batch will be staying on Pabu for a while, it is likely that the camera will turn to Crosshair and possibly Echo and Captain Rex in the next coming episodes. There are rumors that Rex and Echo will attempt to breach Mount Tantiss to perhaps rescue the beleaguered clone. That would make for an impressive finale (and an interesting twist).
