WARNING: SPOILER ALERTS FOR THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2, EPISODE 4

Eagle-eyed Star Wars fans got a real treat in the fourth chapter of Season 2 of The Bad Batch. “Faster” was an ode to podracing and featured a rare species called Dowutins. The towering species have only appeared a few times in lore, but they are always memorable when they do.

Some may call this episode a filler while others would describe it as lore-expanding or as an exciting and fun homage. Tech, Wrecker, and Omega escorted Cid to Safa Toma where Riot Racing (a spin on podracing) was taking place. She quickly lost the bet and ended up owing a large sum of money to a colossal Dowutin named Millegi. Omega convinced him to go double or nothing to clear Sid’s debt and he agreed. The stakes got even higher when their droid pilot (TAY-0) was destroyed and could no longer race. Tech calmly stepped in as the replacement pilot, and surprised everyone when he won.

RELATED:

Dowutins were built like a tank. They never stopped growing and could also live to be hundreds of years old. They had thick brown skin and large facial horns on their chins. The species previously appeared in the movie The Force Awakens (the gangster Grummgar who alerted the First Order on Takodana), in The High Republic series (Pan Eyta), and most famously as the Ninth Sister who was defeated by Cal Kestis on Kashyyyk in the Jedi: Fallen Order game (Masana Tide).

In “Faster,” the character of Millegi was voiced by legendary actor Ernie Hudson, who at the end of the episode gave the Bad Batch an ominous warning that their loyalty would not be reciprocated by Cid. It could be misdirection on the gangster's part or it could foreshadow his eventual return to the series.
