Asajj Ventress

The Bad Batch episode 9, “The Harbinger” sees a familiar, supposedly dead character's return. It also leaves us with more questions, than answers surrounding Omega. This episode has been a nice change of pace from the last few and is also surprisingly funny.

We once again start on Pabu, and this time, never actually leave the planet. Omega is going about her business when she stumbles across a cave with Batcher, who starts acting very weird. Omega decides to investigate and comes across an unfamiliar ship. With her back turned, the character whose ship it is, creeps up up on Omega. We finally get to see Asajj Ventress grace our screens once again. Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair see Batcher run from the cave and head toward it to see Omega and Ventress. They are rightfully worried as they are unsure who this woman is, but the worry subsides for a bit when they find out she is Fennec’s contact. She doesn’t know too much, but we find out what “m-count” is. She puts Omega through a series of tests, to test what her m-count is, and some of them don’t go as planned. During this, the boys find out that the person training Omega is indeed Asajj Ventress. Normally, these clones are pretty smart, but for some reason, they decide to fight Ventress, and it goes about as well as you’d expect. After putting their differences aside, they let Omega train with Ventress some more, and during their last test, get into some trouble. The boys rescue them, and she goes on her way.

It’s wonderful that we get to see Asajj Ventress again. In Dark Disicple, she, unfortunately, meets her end and is buried back on her home planet of Dathomir, thanks to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Quinlan Vos. This episode, however, takes place after the events of the book, and she should technically be dead. She has somehow returned, and since it wasn’t explained in the episode as to how she returned, let’s hope it will be explained later. It’s wonderful to see her finally be a person with her own authority after not having it for such a long time. Her character development is some of the best in all of Star Wars. This is the best version we have seen of her yet, and I feel this won’t be the last we see of her either.

It’s truly wonderful that anyone who meets Omega, wants to help her, besides the Empire of course. Ventress was no different. While she was wary of the clones at first, she warmed up to Omega and wanted to help her. She was also an excellent teacher, unlike her masters who trained her. At the end, she even lied to the boys, who saw right through it, to protect Omega. Omega and she had some great moments together, and I hope we can see them interact in the future.

Ventress and the boy's interactions were some of the funniest parts, especially when she gave some side-eye to Wrecker. There were more questions than answers in this episode, especially regarding Omega. As always, it will be interesting to see what happens to all of them, especially Omega, and if these questions are finally answered.
