Best 'Star Wars' Couples

The ever-expanding Star Wars galaxy has given us some of the best couples in cinematic history. One of the only downsides is that many of the love stories in Star Wars are either hinted at like Din Djarin and Bo-Katan and Ezra and Sabine or they are not part of the current canon like Luke and Mara Jade. To celebrate the last day of Valentine’s weekend I have put together a list of my five favorite Star Wars couples. For this list, I am only including actual couples who are also confirmed to be part of the current canon storyline. WARNING: contains spoilers for the original trilogy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, the prequel trilogy, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor!!

5. Leia & Han – The Original Trilogy

Leia and Han are a great couple because they spend most of their time arguing with each other and reminding us that love isn’t always convenient. I know we get some of their romance in the sequel trilogy, but if we are being honest it would be best for everyone if we forgot about those movies most of the time. Leia and Han’s romance blossomed in a way that wasn’t all that common when the movies first came out. Even though you had the handsome bad boy and the beautiful princess they weren’t interested in each other at all in the beginning. They fell in love with each other while actively fighting against their feelings and it is why they are one of the best couples in cinematic history.

4. Cal & Merrin – 'Star Wars Jedi: Survivor'

The Star Wars Jedi series of games is some of the best new Star Wars content out there. The games dive into parts of the galaxy that we get very little from and introduce us to the Nightsisters more thoroughly than any of the live-action content before Ahsoka. The second game in the series finally gave us a relationship between Cal and Merrin which had been seemingly teased at the end of the first game. Although you have to play most of the game before you get to their romance we finally got to see a Jedi choose love over the Jedi Order without it making them turn to the dark side. This storyline makes me hopeful that we will get to see something similar in the upcoming Rey film. Cal and Merrin’s romance blossoms throughout the game and while we don’t get a ton of romantic moments between the two we get enough to fall in love with the pair and the future they will have together!

3. Satine & Obi-Wan – ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’

I’m sure some people are going to disagree with me on this one since we never technically see them as a couple, but it is made abundantly clear that they were a couple when they were younger, and that they still have feelings for each other. While this romance is one of my favorites it is also bittersweet because it further proves how hypocritical the Jedi Order was. Obi-Wan consistently ridiculed Anakin about his feelings for Padme, and yet he not only had feelings for someone just like her, but he clearly acted on them at least once. I hope that in future content we will get to actually see their romance rather than just hear about it.

2. Anakin & Padme – The Prequel Trilogy & 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'

It was really difficult to put this couple at number two on this list because they are one of my favorite fictional couples ever, but I didn’t feel right to put them before my number one couple. I love Anakin and Padme’s romance because it blossomed differently for each of them. For Anakin, his love for Padme blossomed while they were apart, but for Padme her love for Anakin blossomed throughout Episode II while they were hiding out together and she had the opportunity to get to know him. I love their romance in the prequels, but I love them even more in Star Wars: The Clone Wars when we get to spend more time with them and see not only how they are politically, but also how they are behind closed doors. I am holding out hope that we will get more of them together in future content.

1. Hera & Kanan – 'Star Wars Rebels'

When ranking Star Wars couples there is no way to put any other couple at number one. Hera and Kanan are the best couple in the entire galaxy! Not only do they work so well together as a couple and as partners, but they also build a family together by focusing on reducing those that need them most. Their love story will always be one of my favorites and I will never forgive Dave Filoni for season four episode 10 and what he did to poor Hera.

The original, prequel, and sequel trilogies, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels are available to stream on Disney+.
