I FINALLY Watched ‘3:10 To Yuma’

3:10 To Yuma scene

As a massive movie fan, I am always surprised to find how many movies I haven’t seen that many people would consider ”must-see films”. To kick off the new year I have decided to do a six-part series where I watch films in different genres that fans of that genre insist everyone should see! For the first installment in the series, I decided to go with the western genre which is a genre that I don’t see people talking about very much. I grew up on Westerns, but since the passing of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood directing more than acting, it feels like we don’t get a ton of great Westerns anymore. The main film that I saw most Western fans discussing was 3:10 to Yuma, and I can say that is easily one of the best films I have ever seen!

While I think many people think of Westerns as slow-moving or boring, this film is the exact opposite. There is action from the very first scene and a surprising amount of twists perfectly scattered throughout. One of the most fun things about this movie is the number of cameos that are perfectly placed and allow us to see some of our favorite actors in different ways. Each character has so much complexity that you feel like you actually know each of them, so you care about where they have been and where their story is headed.

Bale and Crowe

The 2007 film has a great cast and stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale with a supporting cast that features Alan Tudyk, Logan Lerman, and Dallas Roberts. The film focuses on a rancher (Bale) who is about to lose his farm because of crooked dealings with the richest man in his town and overwhelming debts. After an infamous outlaw (Crowe) is captured in his town the rancher agrees to aid in transporting him to the prison train to Yuma. The two are thrown into a battle for survival that finds them relying on each other more than they ever thought they would.

I love movies of all genres, and this one quickly became one of the best films I have ever seen. Bale and Crowe are at their absolute best, and their on-screen chemistry is a sight to see. I wish that they would do more projects together because they are a truly dynamic duo. The supporting cast is spectacular and each actor holds their own with the other stars of the film regardless of how much or how little time we have with them. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal, and it will have you gripping the edge of your seat until the credits roll. My favorite thing about this movie though is the incredible depth of character and growth that our duo goes through over just a few hours. The ending of this film is one of the best I have ever seen because while there is a massive gunfight going on you also have this incredible story unfolding in front of your eyes. The final moments are so good that it will leave you thinking about it for weeks. I highly recommend that everyone watch this movie at least once!

Rating: 10/10
