I FINALLY Watched ‘The Matrix’

As someone who loves action movies and Keanu Reeves, it is wild to me that I had never seen any of The Matrix films! For the action genre of this series, I knew that I had to do this film above all others. I still haven’t had a chance to watch any of the other films in the series, but I did watch the first one and I was blown away! I will do my best to talk about this movie without spoilers, but for anyone who has seen it, you know how difficult that is!

The first thing to know going into this movie is that if you haven’t seen it then you don’t know what it is about. I had seen tons of videos from the movie over the years, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what it was about but I was completely wrong.

The movie takes you in directions that you never see coming and gives you a story that isn’t all that hard to believe in 2024. One of my favorite things about this movie is how cheesy some of the scenes are. I know that back in 1999 when it first came out the graphics were top notch, but in 2024 many of the scenes will have you laughing at how cheesy they are. In my opinion, this added to the charm of the film.

The film follows a computer hacker named Neo who has been searching for a mysterious being known as Morphius. After an encounter with a beautiful stranger, he is led into an underworld that reveals the truth about our reality and introduces the idea of The Matrix. Neo and the few others who know the truth are in a battle to save the human race, but they soon learn that not all humans want to be saved.

There were so many great twists woven into this story that the second you think you know what is going on you’re thrown for a loop, and the story takes a completely different direction. This is probably one of the most fascinating films I have seen in a really long time.

It goes without saying that the casting choices and acting were phenomenal! With a cast that features Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, and Carrie-Ann Moss, you knew what you could expect from the actors on screen. I was hugely impressed with the chemistry between these stars. They feed off of each other flawlessly and make you forget that you are watching a movie. While the movie was released in 1999, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some incredible CGI scenes.

One of the very best examples of them is after Neo takes the pill, and he is shown the “truth” about the world. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you have seen the movie then you know exactly what scene I am talking about. This entire film is so well made, written, directed, and acted that there isn’t a single negative thing I can say about it! I highly recommend that everyone check out at least the first Matrix film.
