KPop Demon Hunters is the best original content that Netflix has ever released. I am a huge fan of Netflix’s original anime content, but this movie blew everything else the platform has released out of the water. From the casting choices to the music, this movie has everything you could possibly want. Honestly as a huge fan of musicals, I can say that this is the best animated musical ever made.

The movie follows Huntrix which is a world-renowned KPop group made up of Zoey, Mira, and lead singer Rumi. The girls are not only incredibly talented, but they are also secretly demon hunters who split their time between their fans and killing demons. As the girls prepare to take some time off to rest, they are thrown the ultimate curveball. The Demon King, Gwi-Ma, sends a group of male demons to the human world to form a rival KPop group, The Saja Boys. The girls must decide how to handle this new threat as the barrier protecting the human world begins to weaken as The Saja Boys’ popularity grows. Along the way, the movie dives into the culture of South Korea and their beliefs, while also exploring the struggles of being a young woman.

KPop Demon Hunters is one of the most beautiful pieces of content I have ever seen. The way colors are used to express emotion, but also to help the audience differentiate between humans and demons, is fascinating. The movie also allows audience members that are not KPop fans to experience what that fandom is like, and as a fan myself, I can attest to how well done this is. I’m not sure if this movie was meant to be for children, but it is definitely going to be a hit with adults. The writing is so well done that by the end you are empathizing with every demon residing within the Demon World. Each of the members of Huntrix have something they are struggling with internally, and watching as they come into their own throughout the conflict of the movie is really special. One of my very favorite things about this movie is the representation of food. I love food, especially Asian cuisines, and it is really disappointing with the way that it is typically depicted in content. This movie does an amazing job of exploring the different types of food in Korea and how important food is to their culture.

I cannot say enough about how incredible the writing and animation is in this movie, but all of that pales in comparison to the soundtrack. If you have spent any time on TikTok since the film was released, you probably already know what I am talking about, but the music in this film is better than every piece of new music that has been released in the last year at least. Each song is expertly written and performed, and the way that they are woven into the movie feels like magic. Your Idol, which is The Saja Boys’ final song performed in the movie, has not only taken over anime fans, but it is also breaking records on Spotify that were previously set by BTS. Even though these songs are performed by fictional groups, they are charting on real-world charts. I have no idea what they put into this film, but it is going to go down in history as Netflix’s best film and one of the best anime films of all time. I cannot wait for the sequel!

KPop Demon Hunters is available to stream on Netflix.

My Rating: 10/10!!
