Every Nighsister Who Is Still Alive

The Nightsisters were also known as the Witches of Dathomir. They were a clan and ancient order of Magick-wielding women. Dathomir was known for its dark energies, which enabled dark-side users to perform their arcane magick by tapping into the magickal ichor within the planet. Unfortunately, during The Clone Wars, most of the Nighsisters were wiped out, by a Separatist force led by General Grievous. Not many survived the massacre, but those who did, have recently made a mark in various Star Wars content. Let’s look at some of the sisters who managed to survive.

5. Asajj Ventress

Ventress is one of the most, if not the most, recognizable Nighsister. She was born to a clan, led by Mother Talzin. She was later enslaved, after being given up by the clan. After her master died, she was rescued by Jedi Knight Ky Narec, who taught her the ways of the force. Later, she was discovered by Count Dooku and became his apprentice, and eventually assassin for the Separatists. After being abandoned by Dooku, she became a bounty hunter and worked for both sides. She begins a relationship with Jedi Quinlan Vos in the book Dark Disciple. She meets her end in the book and is buried back in Dathomir by Quinlan Vos and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. That was not the end of Ventress however, as she made her return in the final season of The Bad Batch, where she taught Omega in the ways of the force. She has come so far and is now using her powers to live her best life.

4. Merrin

Merrin was introduced near the end of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. When Cal visits Dathomir, he meets Merrin, who doesn’t greet him warmly, as she was misled by former Jedi Master Taron Malicos, who taught her that the Jedi were responsible for the Nightsister Massacre. When Malicos tries to recruit Cal, Merrin confronts them both and is upset at Malicos for aligning himself with a Jedi. She eventually realizes his deception and uses her magick to summon a horde of undead Nighsisters to destroy him. She and Cal learn to trust each other. We see her return in the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, where she works with Cere Junda. She uses her magick to help Cal on his adventures on Jedha. The two become even closer and form a romantic relationship.

3. Morgan Elsbeth

Morgan Elsbeth is the newest Nightsister that we have been introduced to. She debuted in season 2 of The Mandalorian, where we saw her fight Ahsoka Tano, using the beskar spear. She later returns in the live-action series, Ahsoka, where she works under Grand Admiral Thrawn. During the finale, we see her utilize her full magick abilities and even wield the sword Mother Talzin once held. She fights Ahsoka once more but is unsuccessful in killing, and perishes at Ahsoka’s hand. We learned more about her backstory in Tales Of The Empire and even witnessed the Nighsister Massacre. In Star Wars, no one ever stays dead: well some do, but a lot don’t, and this could be the case for Morgan Elsbeth. Even though Ahsoka sliced her, if she is returned to Dathomir, the planet could heal her, and we could see her again.

2. Mother Talzin

Mother Talzin became a figure of power during the Clone Wars. She lived as a shaman on her homeworld of Dathomir, and the clan mother to the Nighsisters. Her expertise in magick drew the attention of Darth Sidious, who went to Dathomir to trade teachings with Talzin. Instead, he abducted her son, Maul, and took him as his apprentice. Many years passed, and Talzin started to sell the services of the Nightsisters as assassins and mercenaries. Talzin became very weakened after the Nighsister Massacre and fled to the spirit world to survive. Later, Savage Opress returned with a battered Darth Maul, and using what magicks she had left, restored Maul to his former self. Unfortunately, restoring Maul forced her to surrender her physical body to the spirit world. Maul pledged to carry her torch and get revenge against the ones who wronged them, but that never went as planned.

1. Jerserra

Jerserra was a powerful force user and hungered for power, no matter the cost. She was a member of the Nardithi Nightissters, a sect of the bigger Nightsister clan. She witnessed most of her sisters die during the massacre. Sometime later, a female Inquisitor came to Dathomir for power but instead found a teenage Jerserra. She took the teenager under her wing and trained her to be an Inquisitor. She spent many years with her master, learning the many aspects of the Force. She became impatient and wanted to travel the galaxy, so she killed her master with her own double-bladed lightsaber. She then erased all signs of her existence and left evidence to point to other Inquisitors. Jerserra has not appeared in anything, besides the canon Ghosts Of Dathomir book, for the Star Wars: Forces and Destiny roleplaying game.

The Nightsisters have been through a lot, and those who survived have not let the massacre define them. They have all built their own path, and have become stronger than ever.
