The Star Wars: Tales Of series currently has three seasons and has quickly become a fan favorite. Each season explores the tales of different characters from the galaxy in ways we haven’t seen before. Typically the tales either fill in blanks between content we have already seen or give us a glimpse into the origins of different characters. Each tale brings something unique to the table and adds to the content that we already have.

What truly makes this series so special is that it is essentially well-executed fan service. Most of the stories are answering questions or showing fans different things that we have been asking about, and it is done flawlessly. Let’s take a look at how these stories hold up when compared to the other seasons.

WARNING!! Contains minor spoilers for Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire, and Tales of the Underworld.

6. Morgan Elsbeth - Tales of the Empire

I do not understand the decision to focus on Morgan Elsbeth in Tales of the Empire. Personally I find her character to be flat and uninteresting, so using her for half of the season was an odd choice. There were so many other characters to choose from, such as Grand Admiral Thrawn or General Grievous, that I do not understand this choice. It was interesting to see where she was during the massacre of the Nightsisters, but her seeking revenge for their deaths alone makes no sense to me. I also don’t understand why we needed to see her meeting Thrawn for the first time when it was never something many of us really cared to see. Overall her tale was boring and felt like the writers weren’t really invested in this season of the series.

5. Barriss Offee - Tales of the Empire

Barriss Offee’s tale is interesting, but I honestly dislike her character so much that seeing the writers giving her a redemption arc ruined the episodes for me. Seeing her being recruited by the Empire and then her change of heart halfway through was interesting, but it just fell flat, in my opinion. As I mentioned above, there were so many characters that could have been explored in this season, and it was simply mishandled.

4. Ahsoka Tano - Tales of the Jedi

I was really disappointed in how they handled Ahsoka’s tale in the series. I loved getting to see her as a baby interacting with her family, village, and environment, and it was also nice to see where she went after we last saw her in Clone Wars. I will never understand why the decision was made to fill her second episode with a training sequence with Anakin and the Clones. We see her training throughout most of The Clone Wars, and I would have loved to see her meeting Master Plo Koon and her early days at the Jedi Temple.

3. Count Dooku - Tales of the Jedi

Count Dooku’s tale was interesting because we not only got to meet him while he was working with a young Qui-Gon Jinn, but we also got to see what fully pushed him to the dark side. We see a glimpse of his reluctance when he is talking to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones, but other than that he is always portrayed as a dark and villainous character. His tale in this series gives viewers the opportunity to learn who he was before Palpatine/Darth Sidious got his claws into him, and we get to see what his true point of no return was. It was also interesting to learn more about Jedi Master Yaddle.

2. Cade Bane - Tales of the Underworld

If I didn’t love Asajj Ventress so much, this probably would have been my number one. When Cade Bane was introduced in The Clone Wars, he was an enigma who we didn’t need to know more about to understand how dangerous he was. He is a fascinating character, but I never felt any real attachment to him.

All of that changed after his part in Tales of the Underworld. We get to meet him as a child living on the streets and watch as he grows into the bounty hunter we know. The things he went through would have turned anyone cold, and the final scenes of his tale will never leave my brain.

There is no way to overstate how incredible this story is. Asajj Ventress is the best Star Wars villain, in my opinion, and I love her even more now that she is a grey character and not a full-fledged villain. Her tale starts off with the final scene in Dark Disciple (which you HAVE to read) and answers the question we all had when she appeared in The Bad Batch: How is she alive? Turns out that there was a great answer to that question! The rest of her story shows what she was doing after Order 66 and where she was before she ended up on Pabu with Clone Force 99. She is one of the most dynamic characters in the Galaxy, and I hope we keep getting more content from her.

The entire Tales series is available to stream on Disney+.
