Well, this was always going to happen.

As they say, Hollywood is out of ideas. Everything is a sequel or a remake or a reimagining or something like that, and it’s gotten stale. However, the movie industry has suddenly found a new source: the internet. The internet is a gold mine that is largely untapped.

And the movie industry saw what a goldmine the internet could be with the massive box office hauls of films like Obsession, Backrooms and Iron Lung. Horror is generally pretty cheap to make, and the creepypasta genre has a built-in fanbase, which is one of the reasons that Backrooms did so well. Now arguably the most famous creepypasta, though certainly not the best, is planning to hit the screen.

TikTok creator Savannah Moss and creator-led movie studio Tongal are teaming up to make a Jeff the Killer movie. It will be fascinating to see how it all ends up. Jeff the Killer has had a long life on the internet, and the lore surrounding the character has evolved and expanded across the nearly twenty years people have been telling his story. A big question is how faithful the movie will be to the original story, and what creative spins Moss will put on the lore. The original story doesn’t lend itself to a full-length movie, and there are aspects of it that are just plain silly. We’ll have to wait and see.

So far no details or release date have been made public.
