First we had the massive hit that was Iron Lung. Then two even bigger hits followed in Backrooms and Obsession. V/H/S is tackling the SCP Foundation next. A Jeff the Killer movie is in the works. The movie industry is starting to notice all of the new stories from the internet, and now the floodgates are starting to open.
A prime example of that is the upcoming Siren Head movie. Like the others, Siren Head started out on the internet, in this instance with artist Trevor Henderson, who made images of a 40-foot-tall creature with two sirens for a head. So far, no plot details have been revealed, but we know that it will be produced by Warner Bros., which won a bidding war for the rights, and will be directed by Brian Duffer (No One Will Save You) and co-written by Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian). The film is set to star Josh Brolin and Austin Abrams.

Unlike characters such as evil Sonic from Sonic.exe and Jeff the Killer, Siren Head doesn’t have as much lore surrounding him. It will be interesting to see what the story is, since the filmmakers aren’t fully constrained by a major fandom story. They can go in all kinds of directions with it. Whether it will be as successful as Backrooms remains to be seen, but with the backing of a major studio and some modern powerhouses in horror, the odds are good.
So far no release date has been set.
